Come on, Nathan. Suck it up!
Trust me, I was really surprised when I opened my door to greet Nathan, but instead I saw Tom giving me one of his creepy smiles.
It was 3pm and I made plans for Nathan to pick me up at this time exact. I was wearing my chocolate brown jeans, flat shoes, white shirt, a black jacket and a pair of sunglasses. He said to dress whatever I wanted to. I just felt like I should be myself for this dinner.
“Surprise, surprise!” Tom had interrupted my thoughts.
“Why are you here? Where’s Nathan?” I asked as I walked outside and locked the door.
“He had to meet Jayne for the last details, so he asked me to pick you up. Is that bad?” He walked towards his car and I saw he was driving an Audi.
“I’m just… Surprised.” I told him and got into the car.
“Are you excited for your date?” He raised his eyebrows. “I heard you had quite a plan.”
“I’m nervous, but everything’s going to be alright.” I convinced myself. “How do I look?” I asked for an honest opinion.
“You remind me of Megan Fox.” He said and giggled.
“Wait. Is that a good thing?”
“Trust me. It’s the best compliment I could ever come up with.” He nodded looking at the road.
“Aww. TomTom made some effort.” We both laughed.
“I’m pretty sure Nathan is more nervous about this whole thing than you are.” He said after a while. “I mean, he woke up like at 6am this morning and was bothering everyone else until Max made him to go to the bathroom and locked him there.” Tom let out one of his contagious laughs and I did the same.
“Poor thing.” I bit my lip.
“And what about us? We didn’t get to sleep as much as we wanted. You should feel sorry for us as well.”
He pouted.
“You have girlfriends for that.” I giggled.
“Then at least, feel sorry for Jay. He’s been all alone lately. Hey, mind setting him up with one of your friends?” Tom sounded so sure about his idea, but I shook my head.
“No way. He’ll end up hating me. My friends are a bit… weird.”
“Sounds like a match for Jay.” He just shrugged slightly and laughed.
We got to their house just in a bit. I knew Nathan wasn’t here, so I stepped inside to say hello to others.
“Jules! You made it!” Jay was happy to see me, so he pulled me into a hug and let go of me only I when I was punching his stomach and begging for air. “Sorry about that. I’m quite hard to handle today, so I’ll just walk away now.” He said. Few voices laughed and I turned to see Max.
“Hi! Hope he didn’t crush you.” He laughed and nodded toward Jay, while giving me a hug.
“No. I think I’ll live.” I said when I we pulled apart and I turned to Siva.
“Not after this you won’t!” he laughed and hugged me as hard as he could.
“Alriiight! Leave the girl. She’s all ready for her date. Don’t mess with her hair, no JAY! DON’T.” Tom was trying to tease me and get this reaction from boys at the same time, when Jay was messing with my loose hair. I laughed and stepped back a few steps, so I could be away from them all.
“You, sick people!” I laughed while brushing my hair with my fingers. My sunglasses now were in my hand. “I’m gonna get you back, I swear.”
“You can’t! You’ll have to act all polite and stuff today.” Max shrugged not even bothered with my threat.
“Then some other day, anyway.” I nodded and put my sunglasses on my head. “So, are we like leaving soon?”
“I don’t know. Nath should be back soon. I should call him.” Siva said grabbed his phone and left the room.
We chatted a little with guys and when Siva got back, he told us Nathan would be waiting at the station already with Martin and Jayne because he couldn’t make it to home on time.
We all agreed it’s time to roll, so we walked to the van and arrived at the place about 20 minutes later. I walked inside next to Tom and we were following Jay and Max. Siva ended up going behind us with Martin.
As soon as I walked in the room where the live session was supposed to happen, I saw there were fans taking their seats. Soon enough, Jayne walked towards me and hugged me.
“It’s nice to finally meet you, darling. Nathan hasn’t been able to shut up. Oh, I’ve almost forgot.” She handed me something which seemed like a ticket, but the difference was that I could hang this one on my neck.
“What’s that?” I asked.
“Just your pass to get anywhere you want while you’re with the boys. We don’t want security think you’re just a fan.” She winked at me.
“That’s great! Thanks, Jayne.” I smiled at her.
“No problem, love. Let’s go see if the boys are ready.” She turned around and left the room with me walking right behind her.
When we entered the boys’ dressing room, they were doing a warm up; just singing around one of their songs. I immediately saw Nathan. Well, his back, if to be exact. He was busy, singing his part from Rocket, that’s why he didn’t hear anyone has entered the room. Tom was one of those few people who had noticed me, so he walked towards Nath and turned him around.
At first, Sykes looked like he wasn’t even sure that I - standing there with my hands in my jacket’s pockets - was real, but then he gave me a full smile, walked right in front of me, wrapped his arms around my neck and kissed me on the cheek.
I hid my face into his neck when people around us started awwww’ing. He laughed for a bit.
“Stop it, guys. You’re making her feel uncomfortable.” He said and a few voices laughed. I indeed felt myself blushing. “They’ll soon get over it. I mean it. When Kelsey and Tom first started dating they were even harsher on her and look at her now. She’s practically family now.” He whispered to my ear and I nodded.
“You two. No secrets around us.” I didn’t hear how Max got near us and I lifted my eyes to face his smile. “I’m sorry, Jules, but I have to steal your boyfriend for a music session.” He said and I pulled myself away from Nathan.
“Not really a session. We’re taking him to a dark room and we’re planning on doing bad things with him.” Tom joked giving me a creepy smile and getting slapped on his head by Siva.
“He’s definitely joking.” Seev said leaving the room.
“Or is he?” Jay sounded mysterious, but funny as well.
“Jayne’s going to take care of you, will you, Jayne?” She nodded and Nathan smiled.
“I know. Just go now.” I pushed him out of the room.
Me and Jayne walked right behind them, but then turned into a different corridor and went to take our places in some section which was only for crew members and probably their close friends. It was a great place, as we were right next to the simple stage and we could see the band very well.
The boys soon walked in and took their places on chairs. Tom had guitar in his hands as he was going to be the one who plays.
“Hi, we’re The Wanted.” Max announced. “We’re really glad you came to this little acoustic session…”
“Ouch, Max… No quoting. No quoting.” Jay shook his head interrupting and the crowd laughed.
“Wouldn’t be the first time…” Siva added.
“Riight…” Max kept himself quiet for a few seconds. “So, this is Glad You Came.”
The crowd was laughing again and I grinned. Jayne did the same.
After a couple of songs, Nathan turned to Jayne and showed her some hand sign which looked like he was showing a phone or something. Fortunately, Jayne understood and took something out of her pocket. Only then I noticed it was a flip camera. She was about to walk it to Nathan, but her phone rang at that moment and instead of waiting for a while, she handed it me to carry it towards the stage.
My face was probably confused, because Jayne encouraged me by just nodding and I stepped towards the stage while she went to answer her phone.
Nathan’s face lightened up when he saw me. He jumped from his chair to meet me halfway and when I gave him a flip, he pulled me into a hug and kissed my forehead.
“Thanks, babe.” He said not even bothering to lower his voice and I felt as room went in deafening silence.
“No problem.” I said, pulling myself apart from him, turning around and walking back to Jayne.
I could hear some girls whispering something and I didn’t like it at all, but decided, not to get disturbed by that and when I got back to my place, Nathan turned the flip towards me, I smiled and gave him a thumbs up.
After another few songs the boys ended their little performance and walked away from stage. Nathan got down and managed to reach me through all the screaming fans.
“You shouldn’t have done that.” I said as we both laughed and I grabbed his hand to pull him to myself.
“But I wanted… to meet fans.” He said and turned around facing the girls.
He was really pleasant with them. They talked for a bit and Nathan took a few pictures with them. After a while he apologized and said he had plans, so he must go.
“Yeah. You have a date. We know. We read your twitter.” One of the girls said and I remember her introducing herself as Amber, when Nath asked her name. She suddenly turned to me. “Are you the one he’s taking on it?” She asked and I smiled.
“That was the plan, but right now I’m not so sure. He could take any of you, as far as we know.” I just shrugged.
Amber seemed happy with the answer, so she and other girls laughed.
We left as soon as we could and joined others in the dressing room.
“You were great.” He said to me as I had my arms around him.
“What? I didn’t do anything. You were great.” I said a bit unsure about what was he talking about.
“I mean with those fans.” He rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, well… I was always good with the kids.” I giggled and he did the same.
The boys had packed their stuff and soon enough they were heading to the van. Me and Nathan were taking his car that he had driven here before, since we had planned a dinner. It was half past five already when he drove me to this place which wasn’t really fancy or anything. It was just a place I’d choose to have a dinner with my boyfriend.
As I stepped out of the car, I noticed a few people with cameras checking Nathan’s car. When they saw him, they started taking pictures. Nathan didn’t even bother to care about it, so he locked the car, walked around it, took my hand into his and we both walked into the building.
Taking seats right next to the window was also part of our plan. Nathan explained soon that he didn’t want to bring those cameras inside and make a chaos, but still wanted to make us visible.
We sat in front of each other and soon ordered our meal. I ordered some Thai food and grabbed a coke, while Nathan wanted to try some sort of local special.
“At least they can’t hear us.” I smiled and he nodded.
It was pretty difficult to pretend as if I didn’t see them at first, but later on, when we were eating and just talking and having fun, I completely forgot about the cameras.
After we laughed of some stupid joke I made, Nathan inhaled heavily because he was lacking air in his lungs from all the laugh and turned his face to the window.
“Wanna have some more fun?” he asked raising his eyebrow.
“What do you mean?” I put my coke down.
“Give me your hand.” He put his own on the table and I did the same.
“Fine, but I don’t see… Hey. What’s up with that?” I asked trying not to laugh as he lifted my hand and kissed it.
“Right now, they’re going mental about the fact they’ve missed it.” He smiled putting my hand on the table again. I just giggled.
“You, badass.”
“Wanna tease them just a little bit more?” He asked.
“Are we allowed to do that?”
“Technically, no. But then again, we won’t be doing anything.” He shrugged.
“Fine. What do I have to do?” I realised we were being so immature about this whole thing. We were supposed to act serious, to be formal and all, but we weren’t even close to that.
“You don’t have to do anything. I’m the bad boy here. I’m disappointing fans and making myself look like a heartbreaker.” He giggled and leaned to me over the table.
I thought he was going to kiss me, I really did. I even closed my eyes for a second, but when I couldn’t feel his lips on mine I opened my eyes just to see Nathan’s face so close to mine. He was smirking at me and I grinned. His face soon got even closer as his lips brushed on my cheek, but it wasn’t a kiss. Again. I bit my lower lip and felt his nose touching mine as he lifted his face and was placing his lips on my forehead.
I kicked his foot under the table and got away laughing.
“Such a tease.” I said not sounding really happy.
“Yeah, you still like me.” He sounded so sure about it.
“Woah, slow down. Nobody likes bragging, you know.” I told him, crossing my arms on the table.
“You do, babe.” He turned his head just a bit.
“No. I like you. Not your bragging.” I giggled and he seemed to look like this conversation was over.
We left the place when it was like 7pm and got to his car. Nathan lifted his hand towards the cameras and I just smiled. We drove away with my head resting on the window. He asked me a few times if I was alright and I had to convince him, I was just fine. It was sweet, but annoying as well. He kept checking me time after time and I just smiled at him.
We arrived to some place I’ve never been before. It was like a park or some square that had lights all over the place, but since it was still pretty early they were off.
“What is this?” I asked when we both walked out of the car. He just smiled, gave me his hand and we both went to find a bench or something just to sit down.
Apparently, they were all really busy, so we ended up sitting on the edge of a fountain.
“This is the first ever place I visited when I got to London. I was probably twelve or something. They had this platform over here which was a pretty big deal back then. I remember standing right there behind it and my hands were shaking.” He laughed from his memories and I just sat there smiling. “There were like a hundred people. Maybe even less. Comparing it to now sounds stupid. We did arenas with 75 thousand people.”
He looked around probably trying to remember something else.
“I never thought I’d come this far. Every time I get caught in fame I come here. Just to remember how much I had to work for this and remind myself that I’m just like anyone else.”
He turned to face my eyes and when he saw me smiling he shook his head.
“You think this is stupid, I know…”
“No.” I rushed to interrupt him. “I think this is like something I’ve never heard before.”
He just sat there watching our hands, playing with my fingers for a while. There were less and less people in the park. I felt the need to speak up, but when my eyes met his, I saw him hesitating about something. I tried to ask, but every time he opened his mouth, he couldn’t say anything.
“Come on, Nathan. Suck it up!” I joked about it and he grinned.
“I really don’t know how to say this.” He told me.
“Then sing it.” I joked again, but he was thinking about my idea.
“That I can probably do.” He said and stood up.
“You won’t…” I said carefully because he seemed like he might.
“I’d ask for a beat if you were Max, but anyway…” He looked at the ground standing in front of me. “This is not gonna last forever, it’s the time where you must hold on. And I won’t let you surrender and I heal you if you’re broken. We can stand so tall together, we can make it through the stormy weather, we can go through it at all together. Do it all together, do it all…”
I smiled all the way through. I definitely knew this song, but couldn’t remember the name. Of course, I didn’t have to.
“All I want to say is… I’ll be your strength. I will, I will, I will. I’ll be your strength. Yes, I will. Yes. I will.”
He added that simple part before continuing singing again. He reached out for my hand after the chorus and I took it standing myself.
“I won’t sleep till the sky is calmer, keep on searching till I found you. And my love will be your armor in this battlefield around you.”
I felt myself blushing and smiling at the same time.
“Hand in hand we walk together. We can make it through the stormy weather. We can break down walls together, do it all together do it all…”
He pulled me towards himself and hugged me tightly.
“I’ll be your strength. I will, I will, I will. I’ll be your strength. Yes, I will. Yes. I will.”
He finished the song in my ear while we were slowly spinning at the same spot we first hugged. I let a tear slip down my face, but it was a tear of happiness. I really didn’t want to let go of him just now.
“Are you still breathing?” He asked me after a while.
“Yes. I’m good, really. I’m just… God, I believe I’m crying, aren’t I?” I pulled my head from his neck and laughed.
“You are. Definitely. And I’m sorry about that.” He laughed as well. Anybody else would’ve stopped me from crying, but he let me go on, because he knew it was the tears of joy.
He placed his hands on my face and made me look into his eyes.
“I will never ever make you cry, I’ll be there for you whenever you need me. I’ll support you and every single decision of yours and I’ll… I’ll be your strength, your personal soldier.” He smiled at me and slowly leaned to kiss me on the lips. It was magical. Honestly, I’ve never felt anything like it. My face was still wet from my tears, but I was kissing the most amazing guy I’ve ever met and I smiled all the way through.
“Come on, let me take you home.” He said when we broke off. I nodded in agreement and we walked to the car while he had his arm around my shoulder.
***
“I had the best time, Nathan. I was scared at first, but everything turned out to be great, so… Thank you.” I said when we both were in front of my door.
“It’s nothing, really. I’m glad I had a chance to show the world my girl.” He giggled. “I’ll call you tomorrow.” He said, kissing me and then he walked away.
I wish everything was that simple…
